The 762 Club - LYNformation Bulletins

Aware that much development has been going on in the background, but little has been seen in public, and also that the pace of development is gradually increasing, the 762 Club introduced this on-line update feature in early 2013. This page, updated around once a month, will provide brief news snippets, images and general "Lynformation" on our progress. Please come back regularly for the latest updates.

LYNformation Bulletin No.36: December 2015

Dear All,

Welcome to LYNformation 36.

Hello Folks,
Well what a success the open day was! Thank you so much for the great attendance and kind words that were given during our 762 Club open day held at Alan Keef's works on Saturday 28th November. About 70 members and friends attended and mightily impressed they were to! We also had all of the railway press in attendance and I am sure they will be writing nice things about the project in their respective magazines next month.

1. Frames

I am pleased to add just a couple of images. One is of the frames on the lorry en-route to AKL. It shows just how big the frames are when placed on a flat-bed. The second image was taken just before the frames left Lowther's.

2. Rear Pony Truck

Those who came to the open day witnessed the finished front pony truck and the rear truck prior to assembly. Since then, the rear pony truck has been fully assembled, painted and finished. Another big milestone for the completion of LYN.

3. Reverser Assembly

Again, visitors to AKL saw the reverser assembly in its component form. Now all of those bits have been put together to form the finished assembly, and mighty fine it looks too!

4. Brake Gear

Now that the drawings have been released, I am doing the detailed assessment of who can make what. The 762 Club is taking this assembly on ourselves and I am going to our usual group of friendly machinist's to ask yet more favours. We have started the process of buying the raw material and getting it water jet cut. We saved the off cuts from the side rods and will use this spare material to make a number of components which will be machined by Paul West of ND Precision over the Christmas Break.

5. Hand Brake Assembly

We have a sponsor for the hand brake chassis assembly and the order has been placed. This will be delivered to AKL in mid-March when the manufacturer is on his way to the Cheltenham festival!

6. Drawings

They are practically finished. 99.9% have been now drawn but some have still to be checked. This process is expected to be completed by Christmas. Thank you, Mike and Ian for this mammoth task.

7. Ashpan

Great news! Our good friends, Altex Limited of Calne, Wiltshire have kindly agreed to make the ashpan for us. Previously they made the spark arrestor, so we know we will get a first class job. This will save us a bundle of money, and should be completed sometime in the spring.

8. The Latest Batting Order

I thought you would like to see the latest batting order. Items marked in yellow are complete or in process. As you can see, the suspension and horn guides are the two last big areas to have made. I should have a good idea of the likely costs and timescales to make these by early in the New Year ready for LYNformation 37.

Finally, I would like to thank you all and wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Peter
